Research Interests

Interface: It is formed between different phases, which is supposed to initiate various kinds of physical and chemical phenomena. For example, in batteries, electrochemical reactions that occur at solid-liquid interfaces between electrodes and electrolytes trigger events in devices, which are also important for next-generation devices that contribute to providing sustainable solutions. Therefore, to design and build precisely controlled and efficient devices, we need to thoroughly understand interfacial reactions. However, it has been technically very difficult for long to analyze such reaction phenomena because they occur in very small nanoscale spaces. The researcher tackles this by using the originally developed new-generation spectroscopic systems and computational chemistry simulations to eliminate many mysteries involved in interfacial phenomena, based on which the researcher proposes new electrochemical processes that lead to next-generation energy devices such as secondary batteries or electrolyzers, in collaboration with Prof. Homma and Prof. Fukunaga.
